Part 2 is officially planned for Diwali 2027
Ramayana Part 1 opened in cinemas today, November 5, 2026, and the makers have already told you when the story ends. Part 2 is planned for Diwali 2027. Producer Namit Malhotra announced the two dates in November 2024, when he confirmed the film as two parts: Diwali 2026 for Part 1 and Diwali 2027 for Part 2. That plan has never changed in any official announcement since.
The Hollywood Reporter India states it plainly: the film is the first instalment of a two part adaptation of Valmiki epic, with the concluding chapter set for Diwali 2027. A DNEG announcement from July 3, 2025 says the same. The same team returns, with Nitesh Tiwari directing, Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana and co-producer.
No exact day has been announced. Diwali 2027 falls on Friday, October 29, 2027, and one report says that date has been shortlisted, but treat that as reported, not confirmed. The year is firm in every official statement so far.
The Diwali 2028 claim, and why it is not settled
There is one loud voice saying something different, and you should know about it. Taran Adarsh, the trade analyst who watched Part 1 twice and gave it five stars, ended his review post by writing that he was already looking forward to the second part of Ramayana, "which arrives in Diwali 2028". Filmibeat quoted that post in full on October 31. That single line set off a round of reports asking whether Part 2 had slipped a year.
The makers have not confirmed any delay. The Hollywood Reporter India asked outright whether Part 2 is likely to be pushed, and noted there has been "no official communication" from the makers. Outlook India, citing a Bollywood Hungama report, said the sequel "needs some more shooting time", but noted the delay "remains unconfirmed" and the report rested on one anonymous source.
So here is the honest position. Diwali 2027 is the official target, announced by the producer and repeated in the makers own materials. Diwali 2028 is a claim from one trade post and unconfirmed reports, not a studio announcement. Until the makers say otherwise on the record, treat 2027 as the plan and 2028 as a rumour.
The cliffhanger is the whole point of Part 1
Director Nitesh Tiwari has said Part 1 ends on a cliffhanger, and the early viewers agree. One reviewer at the Los Angeles premiere compared the viewing experience to watching The Lord of the Rings for the first time, and said the film concludes with a cliffhanger that leaves viewers wanting more. Taran Adarsh, after his second watch, said he was already looking forward to the second part. That is exactly the reaction a two part film needs.
The makers have not officially confirmed where Part 1 stops. Reports point to a cliffhanger around the abduction, and if that holds, the rest of the story falls to the second film. Part 1 covers the early and middle chapters: Ram marriage to Sita, the 14 year exile, and the events that bring Ram into conflict with Ravana. The war itself is not in this film.
Think of it like Baahubali. The first film ended on a question that kept audiences talking for two years, and the second film paid it off. The cliffhanger here is meant to work the same way, which is why the 2027 versus 2028 question matters so much.
What story remains for Part 2
What happens next is not a leak. It is the epic itself, and every viewer who knows the Ramayana can see the road ahead. If Part 1 ends around the abduction of Sita, then Part 2 must carry the search for Sita, Hanuman leap to Lanka, the building of the bridge to Lanka, and the war against Ravana. That is the second half of the story, and it is the half most audiences associate with the Ramayana: the rescue, the battle, and Ram return to Ayodhya.
Hanuman is the key to that half, and Sunny Deol plays him. Reports say his reveal may come in the final scene of Part 1 or in a post credit sequence. Taran Adarsh refused to reveal anything about Sunny Deol presence in the first part, and wrote only "just watch the film!" Part 2 is where his story truly begins.
The rest of the cast has more to do as well. Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Arun Govil as Dasharatha and Adinath Kothare as Bharat all have threads the epic carries into its second half. Bharat refusal to take the throne in Ram absence is one of the most loved parts of the story, and Part 2 has to close it, along with the fate of Ravana and the return to Ayodhya.
A Diwali 2027 clash is already forming
Part 2 may not get a free run either. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga posted a new Prabhas poster on X on October 18, stamping his film Spirit for October 29, Diwali 2027, moving it from its earlier March 5, 2027 slot. That is the same festival window Part 2 is planned for. A Ranbir Kapoor and Yash mythological epic going head to head with a Prabhas and Vanga action film would be one of the biggest clashes Indian cinema has seen in years, and both camps know it.
That clash is still a year away, and a lot can move before then. But the shape of Diwali 2027 is already clear: two giant films, one festival, and a fight for the same screens. For now, the job of Part 1 is simpler. It has to make you care enough to wait a year for the rest.
What the trade is saying on X
Taran Adarsh (@taran_adarsh) on X, as quoted by Filmibeat, is already looking ahead to the second part:
Already looking forward to the second part of #Ramayana, which arrives in #Diwali 2028.
