March 2027, straight from the co-creator
Invincible Season 5 is set for March 2027 on Prime Video, according to co-creator Ryan Ottley, who confirmed the month in a stream, saying yes when asked if the season arrives in March. That month fits the show's pattern, Season 3 in February 2025, Season 4 in March 2026, Season 5 in March 2027, a yearly rhythm that is rare for big-budget animation.
Prime Video renewed Season 5 on July 17, 2025, months before Season 4 even premiered, and announced Season 6 on June 24, 2026 at Annecy, before Season 5 had aired a single frame. That double renewal makes Invincible the longest-running animated original on Prime Video, according to platform coverage, and it shows Amazon's confidence in the show.
Creator Robert Kirkman, when pressed on timing, gave a vaguer answer, maybe May, maybe January, I don't know, but Ottley's March confirmation is more specific, and it matches the production timeline. Kirkman has also said the goal is to come back in roughly the same timeframe as Season 4, which points to spring, not late in the year.
What Season 4 left behind
Season 4 opened with three episodes on March 18, 2026, then went weekly through the April 22 finale, eight episodes in total, bringing the series to 32 episodes across four seasons, plus the Atom Eve special. Season 4 was built around the Viltrumite War, which Kirkman told TheWrap would be the big focus of that run, and it ended on a tense truce between Mark and Thragg.
Thragg and Dinosaurus will return in Season 5, according to season previews, while Conquest, voiced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is officially gone and will not be back. That mix, returning villains plus a closed chapter, gives Season 5 a clear starting point, without needing to resurrect a dead threat for cheap shock value.
Nobody at Prime Video has named a specific comic arc for Season 5, so any list of issue numbers floating around online is a guess. Kirkman has said there is still so much story left to tell, and that Seasons 5 and 6 are part of a longer plan, with hopes for seven to nine seasons overall, possibly more. That long view is why the show can afford to be patient with its biggest comic beats.
Why the animation pipeline is so fast
Invincible's turnaround is fast for animation, because production overlaps. By March 2026, while Season 4 was airing, Kirkman said the team was getting final animation back for Season 5 and doing retakes. Voice recording for Season 5 was already complete when it was renewed in July 2025, which is why a March 2027 date is realistic, not optimistic.
Skybound has said Season 4 was the most-watched season so far, which helps explain the early renewals. Amazon does not stack renewals on a show it is nervous about, and the show's audience has grown with each season, even as the violence and moral complexity have increased. Mark Grayson's story, a son learning his father is a conqueror, then becoming Earth's protector on his own terms, keeps finding new viewers.
The show's reputation for sudden, graphic violence is part of its brand, but Season 5 will need more than shock. The Viltrumite War raised the stakes to planetary scale, so the next season must show the cost of that war, on Mark, on his family, and on Earth itself, or the scale will feel empty. Kirkman's comic run did that work, and the show has so far followed it closely.
Mark Grayson, still the heart of it
Mark, voiced by Steven Yeun, remains the show's centre, a young hero who keeps trying to do good in a universe that punishes goodness. His father Omni-Man, voiced by J. K. Simmons, set the story in motion, but Season 5 belongs to Mark's choices, not his father's shadow. That shift, from legacy to leadership, is the show's long arc, and it is far from finished.
The supporting cast, including Sandra Oh as Debbie, and the wider Viltrumite and Coalition characters, give Mark a world to protect and to argue with. Invincible works because its fights have consequences, and its characters remember those consequences. A punch in Season 1 still echoes in Season 4, and Season 5 will carry Season 4's truce forward, not reset it.
If you are new, start with Season 1, then the Atom Eve special after episode eight, then Seasons 2 to 4 in order. The show rewards watching in order, because its twists depend on knowing what Mark believed, and when that belief broke.
How to be ready for March 2027
All four seasons stream only on Prime Video in the US, across more than 240 territories, so there is one home for a rewatch. No trailer, teaser, or episode count for Season 5 has been announced yet, as of the latest updates, so treat any trailer date you see as unconfirmed.
Mark March 2027 in your diary, and watch for marketing in late 2026, when Prime Video usually ramps up for a spring animated launch. When the trailer lands, it should confirm the episode count, the returning villains, and whether the season leans into the Viltrumite aftermath or jumps to a new threat. Either way, Mark is back, and the war is not over.
