Ashish and Ayesha return

De De Pyaar De came out in 2019 and it worked because its premise was simple. A middle aged man fell for a much younger woman, and both families had to deal with it. The sequel picks up that thread and moves the focus. This time the test comes from Ayesha's side of the family. That shift keeps the story fresh, even if you know the first film well.
Ajay Devgn returns as Ashish Mehra, a calm NRI investor from London. Rakul Preet Singh returns as Ayesha Khurana. Their age gap is still the talk of the town in the story, but the jokes land in a new place now. The couple is no longer trying to win over Ashish's ex wife and children. They are trying to win over Ayesha's parents. If you watched the first film, you will spot the change at once. The pressure has moved, and the comedy moves with it.

R. Madhavan changes the game

R. Madhavan joins the cast as Rajji, Ayesha's father. He plays a man who thinks of himself as modern and open minded. Then his daughter brings home a much older partner, and his open mind gets tested in full. That gap between what he says and what he feels drives much of the film. You will laugh at him, and you may also see a bit of your own family in him.
Gautami Kapoor plays Ayesha's mother, and she brings a calmer view into the house. Meezaan Jafri plays Adi, Ayesha's childhood friend. Her parents see Adi as the ideal match. He is young, familiar and safe. That sets up a neat triangle, with Ashish on one side and Adi on the other. Jaaved Jaaferi, Ishita Dutta and Janki Bodiwala round out the supporting cast. Their scenes add the noise and warmth of a big family home.

The team and the tone

Anshul Sharma directed De De Pyaar De 2. Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain wrote it. Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg produced it under T-Series Films and Luv Films. That team knows this kind of comedy well. Luv Ranjan built his name on relationship comedies, and this film stays in that lane. The jokes are broad, the family scenes are loud, and the emotions stay light.
One change stands out. Tabu does not appear in the sequel. She played a key role in the first film, and her absence shifts the balance. The film leans more on the new family now. Some fans missed her. Others felt the new cast gave the story room to breathe. Either way, the tone stays the same. It is a feel good comedy first, with a gentle point about age, choice and family pressure tucked inside.

Release and box office

De De Pyaar De 2 reached cinemas on November 14, 2025. It ran about 147 minutes, based on listing data. The film opened to mixed reviews, but it found its audience over the following weeks. Trade reports put its total near 74.17 crore rupees at the box office. Early estimates from Sacnilk put day 9 near 57 crore rupees, with day 15 adding only about 85 lakh rupees. That late slowdown shows a film that opened on interest and then faded, as many mid range comedies do.
The film later reached Netflix on January 9, 2026. That streaming run gave it a second life. A comedy like this often works better at home, where families watch together and pause for tea. If you missed it in cinemas, the Netflix version is the easy way in. You do not need to remember every beat of the first film. The sequel recaps the core relationship fast, then gets on with the new family fight.

Should you watch it

You should watch De De Pyaar De 2 if you like light Bollywood comedies with a strong cast. Ajay Devgn plays Ashish with a dry calm that suits the role. Rakul Preet Singh holds her own in the family scenes. R. Madhavan steals several scenes as a father caught between pride and love. The film does not try to be deep. It tries to make you laugh, and it tries to leave you warm.
You may want to skip it if you want a tight, sharp comedy with no filler. Some scenes run long, and some jokes repeat. But if you want an easy evening film, this one fits. Watch it with family, and you will likely argue about who was right, Ashish or Rajji. That argument is the point of the film, and it is a good sign when a comedy starts one at home.
