The hive turns on its own man
You know the setup from the first film. Adam Clay was a quiet beekeeper with a violent past. When a scam hurt someone he cared about, he went to war with the people behind it. That film was a surprise hit in 2024. It was simple, brutal, and fun. The sequel flips the setup. Now the group that made Clay is the threat.
Amazon MGM Studios has dated The Beekeeper 2 for January 15, 2027 in the United States and the United Kingdom. Timo Tjahjanto directs, taking over from David Ayer, who directed the first film. Kurt Wimmer and Zak Penn get screenplay credit, with Wimmer also credited for story. Jason Statham returns as Clay and also produces. That producing credit tells you Statham has a real stake in how this sequel plays.
The official premise is blunt. Clay becomes a wanted man when he has to save the President of the United States from his own organization, the Beekeepers, who have gone rogue. Trailer reports add detail. The Beekeepers plan to seize control of the government by force. Clay must fight them to stop that plan. He knows how they work because he was one of them. That knowledge is his edge, and it is also his curse. He cannot pretend he is clean.
Who is back, and who is new
Statham is back as Adam Clay. Emmy Raver-Lampman returns as FBI agent Verona Parker. Bobby Naderi returns as Matt Wiley, her FBI partner. Jemma Redgrave returns as Jessica Danforth, the President of the United States. Jeremy Irons returns as Wallace Westwyld, the former CIA director now tied to Danforth Enterprises. Those returns give the sequel a solid spine. You do not need a long recap to know who these people are.
New faces join the fight. Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland join the cast. Klementieff is listed as a member of the Beekeepers. Trailer coverage shows her in a dark suit, with short blonde hair, looking calm and dangerous. That look fits a Beekeeper assassin. Shahidi and Copeland have undisclosed roles in most listings, which leaves room for surprises. Fans have guessed they could be allies or enemies. For now, treat those guesses as fan talk, not fact.
The mix of old and new is smart. Old faces keep the story grounded. New faces give Clay new threats to face. If every Beekeeper fights the same way, the action will get dull. New assassins with new styles should keep the fights fresh. Tjahjanto, who directed Nobody 2 and The Night Comes for Us, knows how to stage hard, clear action. He is a good pick for a film that lives on fight scenes.
What the trailer shows
Amazon MGM released the first trailer on October 15, 2026. It shows Clay as a wanted man, on the run, and still very dangerous. You see bees, you see a flamethrower in reports of the footage, and you see Clay taking on people who use the same skills he does. That mirror fight is the core of the sequel. Clay is not fighting street thugs this time. He is fighting people trained like him.
The first poster, released days before the trailer, shows Statham holding a rifle, staring into the distance, with bees swarming around him. That image sums up the film in one shot. Clay is calm. The bees are close. Trouble is coming. It is a simple poster, and it works because Statham sells that calm danger so well.
The first film earned 162 million dollars worldwide on a 40 million dollar budget, according to trade reports. That is a strong return for an action film. It explains why Amazon MGM paid over 50 million dollars for worldwide rights to the sequel, as reported by Deadline in May 2025. The studio is betting that Clay can carry a bigger film. The January date suggests they want a clear run, with less direct action competition than a summer slot would bring.
What to watch for
Watch how the film handles Clay as a wanted man. If the FBI and the Beekeepers both hunt him, he will have nowhere safe to stand. That pressure could make the film tenser than the first one. Watch Verona Parker too. In the first film, she was caught between her job and her sense of justice. In the sequel, she may have to pick a side. That choice could give the film more heart than a simple revenge plot.
Watch Klementieff as well. If she plays a Beekeeper assassin with real skill, her fights with Clay could be the highlight. Watch Irons too. Westwyld was a slippery figure in the first film. In the sequel, his ties to Danforth Enterprises could make him a key player in his own right.
For now, mark January 15, 2027. The Beekeeper 2 is a theatrical release, with no streaming date announced yet. If you liked the first film, this one promises more of the same, with a bigger threat. Clay against his own hive is a simple idea, and simple ideas often make the best action films. Just do not expect Clay to talk his way out. He never does. He fights his way out, and that is why you go.
